I live in Santiago, Chile where my husband works as an Astronomer on the ALMA Telescope Project. My two sons have to get up far too early to go to school, but we get lovely long Summer and Winter holidays. Home will always be Edinburgh, but we like living here.
I don't have a paid job here, but I organise the network of Astronomy Families here, and I get a lot of time to indulge my hobbies of knitting, sewing and reading about other people's lives on the interwebs.
I had breast cancer a couple of years ago, and we moved to Chile while I was still having treatments. I talk about the experience a lot, I have a tendency to rant here when someone says something I don't like about cancer, or cancer treatments, but it's not the centre of my existence.
I have Hypermobility Syndrome, which results in chronic pain in my joints. This means I don't sleep particularly well, so have a tendency to grumpiness. I will make it up to my children someday, somehow.
I helped set up a knitting in the pub group - Edinburgh's City Knitty which is still going strong over 5 years down the road.
I moderated my local Freecycle group for three years. That was *interesting*.
